The Why Behind the Brand

Micky Klein took her interior design business from a one-woman show in Detroit to one of the top design firms for healthcare, hospitality, and commercial spaces in Miami, one of the design capitals of the country. And she learned a lot while she did it. About business, design, and, of course, people. After twelve years of perfecting her craft, building her legacy, and nurturing the young designers she employed and mentored, she knew she wanted to give back to the industry that gave her so much. So, along came Micky MORE!, an education and formal mentoring program for interior designers looking for MORE! More business, more success, and more out of their careers.

Micky guides younger designers with scaling their business, finding their niche, managing demanding clients, and building a strong reputation in their local interior design community. Micky learned so many valuable lessons during her own entrepreneurial journey—most of them, the hard way. She wants to share that hard-earned wisdom with young designers making their own way in the industry so they don’t have to make the same mistakes she did. Micky attributes much of her success to a rockstar mentor she had early in her career, and she wants to pass the gift of mentorship and inspiration on to the next generation of designers.

Micky loved interior design way before she called herself an interior designer. The tablescapes she created for her dinner parties were renowned within her friend group, and she always found the perfect accessory for every room in her home. Her friends recognized her talent before anyone else did, and they enlisted Micky to help them with projects in their own homes. Micky started to wonder whether she could make a living from her love for curating beautiful spaces. However, Micky was a new mom at the time, and she wanted to make sure she would be happy in her new potential career before she committed time and money to formal education.

So Micky cold-called a local interior design firm and asked for an internship. It wasn’t until the end of the internship, when the owner of the firm called Micky into her office, that she decided to make the leap into a new career. The owner of the firm sat Micky down in her office (it was expertly curated, of course) and told her that she could have a bright future in the industry if she wanted to. She could see a little bit of herself in Micky, and she could see Micky heading her own company someday. That was just the push Micky needed to take the dive into the industry. From there, she enrolled in the Art Institute of Michigan in her hometown of Detroit. The rest is almost history.

She began her interior design career with a firm but soon realized she needed more flexibility than she could get working for someone else. She had three young children, and she knew she needed the freedom to make her own hours so she could balance putting together dream homes for other families with maintaining her own household. That’s why she opened Micky Klein Interiors. Shortly after starting her own business in Michigan, she moved her company and her family to sunny Miami.

Miami is where Micky Klein Interiors blossomed into what it is now. Micky started with residential spaces—her comfort zone at the time—but she soon she expanded to commercial, healthcare, and hospitality work, which became her firm's niche. Micky realized that commercial projects were usually completed much faster and that her designs would affect more people. While residential projects are usually only enjoyed by a single family, her commercial work would impact hundreds of employees and customers in healthcare offices, restaurants, and hotels. She loved seeing her joint vision with the client come to life faster—and all of the people who would get to experience and enjoy the new space.

As Micky’s children got older and she pivoted her business to her new niche, Micky Klein Interiors started to see more signed contracts and more wins. She really wanted to prove to herself that she could be successful in her professional life, so she set out to take her firm to new heights. What started as a one-person firm grew to one of the most reputable interior design firms for healthcare and hospitality clients, complete with an entire team of talented young designers and an impressive roster of big-name clients.

Micky loves to see a space transition from one of endless opportunity to exactly the space that her client needs. But she also loves to see young designers transition from employees with endless potential to designers and business owners in their own right even more. She knows that transition can be trying, but she also knows how beautiful and fulfilling it is at the same time. She wanted to pass the gift of mentorship she received from her very first boss in the industry on to younger designers with the same hunger and talent Micky had when she stepped foot into her first office.

Micky Klein is a self-proclaimed maximalist. She is all about adding MORE! luxury, MORE! textures and colors, MORE! whimsy, and MORE! fun into the spaces she works with. But her maximalist mindset extends into her philosophy on business and mentorship as well. She believes in helping young designers earn MORE! success, MORE! money, and MORE! satisfaction in their careers for their time and talent. And she can’t wait to help you do and make MORE! than you ever thought was possible.
